⟩ 120 GHz Transceiver Frontend – TRX_120_089

The TRXˍ120ˍ089 is an integrated transceiver frontend for the 122 GHz ISM band with antennas in package. The transmitter channel features a gain-controlled power amplifier and the receive channel has a gain-controlled low-noise amplifier, a quadrature mixer and poly-phase filter. The on-chip VCO provides a tuning range of more than 6 GHz. The chip is housed in a LGA81 8 × 8 mm² package. The on-chip VCO, together with an integrated frequency divider and external fractional-N PLL, can be used for frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) radar operation. With a fixed oscillator frequency, it can also be used in continuous wave (CW) mode. Other modulation schemes such as can be implemented by utilizing the analog tuning inputs.

The primary application for this device is short range radar systems with a range of up to about 10 meters. By using dielectric lenses or reflectors, the range can be increased considerably.
